Brief:
Recognition/Awards: 2011 West Lancs Design Awards – Commendation
Brief:The client approached Peter Dickinson Architects to design a replacement dwelling on Moss Lane, Burscough. The clients presented Peter Dickinson architects with a sloping site, currently occupied by a single detached bungalow, and desired that a new-detached family dwelling be designed in replacement. The client required a family dwelling with generous accommodation in the shape of two master bedrooms, two guest bedrooms and a fifth bedroom, with associated living accommodation
Peter Dickinson Architects responded to the brief by producing a contemporary design, composed of render and timber facades and slate roof and achieved a design that received a Commendation from West Lancashire in their 2011 Design Awards. The end result is a generous family dwelling, which responds the site topography of the site by incorporating semi-submerged accommodation, containing a gym, double garage and fifth bedroom. Large gable windows at ground and first floor provide the primary living accommodation with an abundance of natural light and extensive views across the Lancashire countryside. The inclusion of balconies and terraces at ground and first floor levels allows the widespread vistas to be brought into the dwelling, increasing the quality of the internal environment. Elevating the living accommodation to first floor, the dwelling is able to gain a uniquely lofty perspective of the site and surrounding area. A large entrance hall and exposed stairway invite the occupiers of the dwelling up to this first floor living space, allowing the master suite and bedrooms at ground floor to retain a level of privacy.
