Malt Kiln Mews, Standish – Residential Development

Brief:

• To utilise the potential of a site for residential purposes
• Eight terraced houses, each providing two bedrooms, living accommodation and associated amenity space
• Carparking and access for each of the dwellings

Bio: The client engaged Peter Dickinson Architects to provide a residential solution within the suburb of Standish in Wigan, which would maximise the potential of the site. Peter Dickinson Architects provided a solution that delivered eight terraced dwellings split into two blocks. The challenges that faced Peter Dickinson Architects was to provide the necessary amenity space for each dwelling, comfortable yet affordable living accommodation, and to provide a site layout which allowed for the necessary car parking. The site was also located within the Standish Conservation Area, and therefore increased design considerations had to be made.

The finished product was an attractive residential development for eight affordable homes, each with ample living accommodation and outside space. The success of the design was noted by the Wigan Council Urban Design Awards which awarded the development the Residential Design Award for 2012.
