Brief:
Bio: Peter Dickinson Architects have worked with this client for a number of years over a range of projects. In this instance the client commissioned Peter Dickinson’s to produce a scheme that would see the existing swimming pool and plant facility converted to form a large open plan family, kitchen and dining room with guest accommodation at first floor level. As the property is a Grade II Listed Building, Peter Dickinson’s had to approach the scheme with a high level of delicacy and consideration for the original and historic character of the building. The proposed scheme by Peter Dickinson’s saw the existing rear element of the building double in height – to allow first floor guest accommodation as well as the complete renovation of the ground floor space to provide the facilities the client requested.
The finished project now provides a contemporary open plan living space perfect for family use and entertaining, set within an enveloping structure that is consistent with the principle dwelling. The first floor extension is accessed via an exposed glazed staircase from the open plan living area. All window fittings, doors and elevational treatments were designed and chosen to be sympathetic to the principle dwelling.
